‘Sijan’ Documentary Gives Audiences The Full Message & Voice Of A Milwaukee Hero

  • October 22, 2018

We’ve recalled the story of Lance Sijan on Lake Effect before. Sijan was a Milwaukee native and an Air Force fighter pilot in Vietnam. His plane crashed over Laos, and he survived for more than a month in the wilderness before being captured. He was tortured in a prisoner-of-war camp before he died in 1968. Sijan was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

His sister, Janine Sijan Rozina, has been working for decades to preserve and honor her brother’s legacy. Her work has included a novel, the relocation of a Phantom Jet in his honor, and her latest effort — a documentary about Lance that’s premiering Tuesday evening at the Milwaukee Film Festival.
